Firewise Committee News

Updated: Nov 1, 2022

Firewise Committee | Vol. 1 October 31, 2022

Greetings Douglass Ranch Community,

The Firewise committee is very proud of all the community members who have participated in wildfire preparedness and mitigating of their properties.

Fire Mitigation Partnerships with Elk Creek Fire Department & Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District

This year, we had at least 10 lot owners involved with the Elk Creek Fire Department/Inter-Canyon Fire Protection District 2022 Chipping Program. Other community members made the effort to perform their own fire mitigation independently.

Special thanks to the following:

  • Elk Creek Fire department chipping program volunteers for chipping piles of debris stacked along the road.

  • Elk Creek Fire department Ambassadors, Mike and Cathy Rheinberger, for keeping our community informed with the chipping program and other important information.

  • Randy and Tricia Jensen and Doug Benning for assisting with community members mitigation projects.

Annual Renewal as a Firewise USA Community

Our Douglass Ranch Annual Firewise renewal due date is coming soon. We want to continue to be "In Good Standing” with the program by reporting hours our community worked mitigating their properties.

Every year Douglass Ranch must renew their status as a Firewise USA community by investing the equivalent of$1,141.60 or 40 volunteer hours of fire mitigation work. Just one volunteer hour, valued at $28.54 per residential dwelling unit, meets the minimum requirements of this nationally recognized program.

Why is this important?

  • This program demonstrates to the Elk Creek Fire department our commitment to wildfire preparedness through fire mitigation and education.

  • It shows we are actively reducing wildfire risk to our property to keep our community safe.

  • By successfully maintaining our Firewise USA community status, this makes us more attractive when applying for grant opportunities and other similar financial assistance.

  • By remaining in good standing, lot owners may qualify for insurance discounts.

Get Involved!

You can get involved in helping our community maintain this very important certification renewal. Please download the Firewise Certification spreadsheet from our Firewise USA News & Information page. Fill in your mitigation hours worked and related expenses. Mitigation effort encompasses much more than chipping slash.

The spreadsheet lists the many ways that your efforts can be counted toward Firewise re-certification. Our deadline for re-certification is quickly approaching. Email your spreadsheet to our committee chair, Veris Simms at, drpoa.president21@gmail.com by November 11, 2022. Your information will assist the committee with their final preparation for the renewal application. We have successfully maintained our Firewise certification for the last five years. With your help, we can do it again. To download your copy of the Firewise Certification spreadsheet, click on the link below.

If you have any questions, please contact us by email or call our committee chair, Veris Simms, at (720) 220-5631.

Thank you, Douglass Ranch Neighbors, for all of your hard work invested this year. We appreciate your cooperation as we work together to renew our certification status with the Firewise program. Don't forget to check our Firewise USA page regularly. We’re looking forward to providing you with new information and updates in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

The Firewise CommitteeCommittee Chair,
